For over 100 years Renco has been extracting and purifying enzymes of natural origin.
Renco have a small and dedicated team based in Eltham, [Taranaki, New Zealand], on the lush green slopes of the Mount Taranaki. The establishment of a rennet production facility was motivated by the desire to ensure the supply of this vital ingredient for the production of cheese. The First World War created difficulties sourcing rennet from the other side of the globe and cheese was needed to feed the people, both at home and fighting for their country.
The processes to produce rennet and the plant are now radically different from those early days. Modern technology has allowed for the rapid production of a very pure product valued by artisan and traditional cheese makers around the world.
Today there are other coagulants, these are not RENNETS. They include those produced by micro-organisms, fungi and also through genetic engineering processes using the chymosin gene.
Renco produces Rennet of Bovine origin; Lipases [lingual lipase or pregastric esterase] of bovine, ovine and caprine origin; along with Pancreatin of Bovine origin. Renco source premium disease free tissue from within New Zealand or Australia, where both regions have a favoured BSE and TSE free status.
Renco products can be produced as powders or stablised liquids except for Pancreatin which is only available as a liquid. Renco batch produce and have the ability to tailor batch size and blend to meet specific customer requirements. Batches can range between 10kg and 200kg for powder and 100L to 15,000L for liquid.
